If you’re considering remodeling your kitchen, you may be wondering how long it takes. That’s a great question, so we put together a blog post to help. We like to describe two major sections of the remodel process: the design section and the building section. Sometimes clients are more concerned with how long it takes when the material finally arrives, while others may want a more in depth project that completely renovates their living space. This includes designing and ensure the desired features can be installed up to code.

Pretzer Build Kitchen Renovation Timeline

We typically encourage people who want an entire kitchen renovation to think through all of the steps that are involved in the process leading up to the project. This includes contacting us to get in touch with an engineer and designing blueprints to ensure the build is up to code. This process can take several months to complete. Most of this extended timeline can be due to design or blueprint editing to give you the kitchen of your dreams.

Often people ask how long we’ll be in their house. First, we’ll identify what a typical remodel project is for us. We have completed many different shapes and sizes of kitchen remodels, of which have taken as few as five days and up to around a month in the home. This is why it is helpful to have in mind what you desire in your kitchen remodel. For example, we have painted many kitchens and this typically takes one to two weeks.

Typical Kitchen Remodel Project for Pretzer Build

As far as a kitchen remodel project, a typical one would be a home that is 20 to 30 years old, 2500 to 4,000 square feet. Generally, Pretzer Build specializes in kitchen remodels of the entire space. We work on homes that are bigger and older. We work on some that are smaller as well, but this tends to be the lion’s share of the projects that we do.

The Design Process

We encourage people to think through the design process, the selections of materials, lining the materials up and getting those ordered and then the actual remodel project. We start out with the design and selections of materials, so depending on how flexible somebody’s schedule is and how good of a decision maker they are that process, we usually tell people typically about four to six weeks to get that nailed down. That’s the timeline from when somebody makes a phone call to us or comes in our showroom through to contract.

Ordering Materials

The second step is the material portion. We’re big believers on ordering almost all of our materials into our warehouse here. That way, we understand that we have all of our materials ready to go for the project and we’re not missing something. Ordering cabinets for your kitchen remodel can be as easy as picking them up at the hardware store. However, this also can be a lengthy process. Custom cabinetry tends to take longer as we have the them specifically made for your home. Once materials are on sight, in either fashion, you can expect  several weeks for your project to be complete.

Getting the Work Done… Making the Dream a Reality

The last phase is to actually build out the renovation according to plan. That typically takes about three to four weeks. We enjoy working quickly and maintaining a clean environment. We treat your home as our own. This means we do not rush the removal process. We take our time to remove the existing kitchen. This is to ensure that unnecessary damage is prevented. This can take up to a week or more to remove the existing kitchen and prep the floors and walls for the new material. Next, we will install your desired look. Installation is done with perfection in mind. We install everything in your new kitchen with craftsmanship.

The Entire Project

So when someone asks how long the entire process takes, we usually indicate that it’s going to typically run them from about three to five months, from the start of that phone call, all the way through to completion of the project. We know this may seem like a long time. The main deciding factor is how much work we are doing for you. We provide our clients with an anticipated start date, as well as an expected completion date of our projects.
